It is true that everyone has a different style of how they lead people. Not everyone will act or think the same way you do, so in order to manage and create a healthy workflow, a leader needs to step in. The truth is that we’re all human and because of that, we all have our own experiences and opinions. As a leader and individual, you may build views of your own, but your representatives in that office may not always agree. “What I know is that leaders need to be emphatic. Empathy helps us keep our emotions in check. Rather than not understanding where another individual is coming from, the best thing to do is take a step back and see the bigger picture or perspective through that individual’s eyes,” says Ben Streames managing director of Streamline USA. The most significant example we can give is by reading. When an individual is reading a book, they see the story from the main character’s perspective, similarly, in reality, try doing the same when you are a leader, and someone’s opinions don’t match with yours.

A great leader understands every single person on their team and knows that they come from different backgrounds and beliefs. Rather than singling out an individual for being different or not promoting diversity, it is essential to motivate these individuals to stay true to themselves, as well as confident. Diversity is significant in a workplace; it provides creativity and perspective. This only happens when a leader is someone that is empathic to understanding these criteria in the first place. It is great that as a leader you may have these strong views, and you may want to share them, but if someone does not agree — it is best just to see where they are coming from, rather than belittling them or saying they are wrong.
